Halloween Mani!

I admit it can intimidating to do theme manicures for me because all around the nail world are bloggers and non-bloggers alike who are so talented with stamping, nail art, and free-hand painting! I, however, am not one of those people. I’ve tried my hand at stamping a few times and failed miserably at water-marbling…. but I still like to rock a fun themed mani from time to time.

I gathered up a few Halloween-inspired polishes and a sheet of nail vinyls and set to work.

Pink and Purple skittles!

Do you love skittle manis? I used to not be such a fan of them, but lately I’ve been wearing accent nails a lot. Well, one accent nail became two, and now I’m just having fun with mixing and matching. For this combo, I used 3 polishes and dolphin nail vinyls. I think by sticking with 3 polishes it works out looking cohesive and intentional, which I like. But I have been known to wear total skittles occasionally too!

For today’s mani, I started out by grabbing China Glaze’s Purple Panic. I noticed that my Eat Sleep Polish Designer Drums glitter topper looked really nice with it… and then to sort of tie them together, I grabbed Eat Sleep Polish’s Radiance (an extremely LE polish she released a while back).

I used two coats of Purple Panic and Radiance as my bases. Then, on my middle and index finger added one coat of Designer Drums. Remember that Designer Drums has a tangerine-tinted base, so it does slightly alter the colours I put it over.

I finished off with adding the dolphin vinyls on my ring finger. I know I’ve been wearing vinyls so much, but they are so cute, and so easy. I got them here.

The formula on all the polishes was great. Since Purple Panic is a neon, it dried matte but was shiny again with topcoat. All my nails got a good coat of topcoat.

Saturday Savings – China Glaze -Tantalize Me

Happy Saturday! I can’t believe tomorrow will be officially June!

Today I have this pretty shimmery lilac purple that has a blue flash. It’s really gorgeous. I thought it was going to be sheer like OPI’s Significant Other Color because they have the same sort of feel, but Tantalize Me only needed two coats. I used a topcoat as usual. The formula was really nice and I had no problems with it.

I think this one is a pretty spring or early summer polish! During the hotter summer months I tend to wear brighter polish colours.

I like the blue flash that keeps it interesting! What are you wearing today?

Saturday Savings – China Glaze – Towel Boy Toy

The sun is shining and it’s finally warming up here, so it’s high time to bust out some summery colours and neons! Excellent. China Glaze’s Towel Boy Toy is a bright blue neon with a bit of shimmer that is just absolutely gorgeous. It is slightly sheer, so I actually used 4 coats to achieve this opacity, but the formula is very nice so it wasn’t an issue. Being a neon, it does dry matte so I used a topcoat to make it really shiny.

I was lucky enough to receive this one from a lovely lady I know through a Facebook beauty group (Hi, Rebecca! ❤ ), after the one I swapped for disappeared in the mail.

What do you think of this lovely? You can grab it on Nail Polish Canada. Now if only getting a real towel boy toy was just as easy!

Day of Pink – China Glaze – Life’s a Beach

Did you know today is the Day of Pink? What is that, you ask?

The International Day of Pink was started in Nova Scotia when 2 straight high school students saw a gay student wearing a pink shirt being bullied. The 2 students intervened, but wanted to do more to prevent homophobic & transphobic bullying. They decided to purchase pink shirts, and a few days later got everyone at school to arrive wearing pink, standing in solidarity. The result was that an entire school stopped homophobic & transphobic bullying.

The message was clear: anyone can bully, any can be victimized by bullying, but together we can stop it.

Each year on the second Wednesday of April, millions of people wear pink to remember that positive actions make a difference. And that the change starts with each one of us. ”

If you want more info about it, check out their website: Day of Pink.

As a teacher,  it’s so important to me because I want all my students to feel safe at home, school and everywhere else they go. Today is a day for all of us to reflect on what we can do to make a positive change in our own actions… and how we can work together to stop bullying.

So… naturally, I chose to wear pink polish in addition to my pink shirt (and shoes!) today.

I decided it was a good day to choose the brightest, most obnoxious pink I had. So I grabbed China Glaze’s Life’s A Beach. 3 coats is enough for coverage, and I used a topcoat as usual.

Let me just say… these pictures look coral. It’s definitely not coral. It’s pink. Obnoxious, neon pink… but neon colours make my camera freak out… it’s like this, but with a nice shimmer that makes the formula easy to work with.

So keep that in mind.

China Glaze – Hello, Gorgeous

Hello Gorgeous was part of CG’s 2012 Breast Cancer Awareness collection called ‘United in Purpose’. It was a 12 colour collection, but Hello, Gorgeous is the only one I have. It’s a beautiful rosy sparkle… with glittery holo thrown it. This colour is so pretty.

I used 2 coats, plus 2 coats of topcoat to even out the grittiness. I had such a hard time with this polish!! The polish kept peeling off my entire nail in one piece… I had to repaint so many times. I finally did it without basecoat, and that seemed to do the trick. I wouldn’t count on this as being a long-lasting colour… but when you take this baby out in the sun, you forgive it for all the problems!!

It is super hard to photograph, the glitter and holo kept making my camera go out of focus. I managed a few pretty good shots… and included some blurriness to show the true holo!

China Glaze – Blue Bells Ring

I have been in a blue polish kind of mood lately… and today’s is no different! China Glaze’s Blue Bells Ring is a stunning metallic blue. It is probably a 1-coater, but I did two coats just for good measure, plus topcoat. This is from their Holiday Joy 2012 collection, but I believe you can still get it at online retailers.

I have to say though, this polish stinks to holy hell. I wonder if it’s just my bottle, or if they are all like that!! My nails smelled like paint thinner for hours! It also stained my nails like crazy, so maybe try two coats of basecoat with this one.
