In the package I received from Indie Polish there was a little party in a bottle waiting for me. Named Santa’s Disco Suit, this was the one holo I received. A pinkish-red, it really does remind me of what Santa might wear for a night out on the town… New Year’s Eve outfit, anyone?
Santa’s Disco Suit – second from right
This polish both delights and horrifies me. The fact that I have X ♥ Rouge means I have achieved Rouge status at Sephora… which is nice, since there are a few perks that come along with that, but simultaneously horrifies me when I realize I reached Rouge in July and how much money does that mean I spent at Sephora. Yikes!
Nevermind, we’re better off not going down that road! Anyhow, this bright red polish was a gift to Sephora Beauty Insiders when they reached Rouge level this year… it may only be if you were Rouge last year, since I’ve seen some people reaching Rouge for the first time this year getting the Bite lippie! I digress… let’s check it out!
This is my first time trying out a polish from Pacifica, although I have tried out a variety of their products over the past year after receiving a few in different beauty box subscriptions. This deep red creme polish from Pacifica, called Red Red Wine, showed up in my Septemeber Ipsy bag, and I set it aside for a bit (my untrieds pile is kind of big). Yesterday, I was looking for a good polish to use as a base for some glitter topcoats, and pulled this out. After I painted it on I almost didn’t want to add the glitter! The colour is so beautiful I wanted to let it shine on it’s own!
This is another polish that has been sitting sadly in my untrieds pile for quite some time. Okay, I don’t actually have a pile of untrieds… they are actually neatly sorted amongst the rest of my polishes. It’s more of a mental pile. But, I digress… this beauty wasn’t getting any love, and every time I had the intention to pull it out and use it, another polish order would show up and get in the way. Who knew polishes could be so rude to each other?! Lilypad Lacquer’s Ruby Slippers was a patient lady, so I finally pulled her out over the weekend to give her a chance to shine.
I’m sure many of you were in the same boat I was when Urban Decay announced their new Pulp Fiction collection… excited! But, unlike many of you, I was excited because the polish and lippie were beautiful… not because of the movie. You see, I had never seen Pulp Fiction at that point! (Say whaaaat?) It’s true! So I obviously sat down with my bff Netflix and caught myself up on a 20 year old film.
So, naturally, I began stalking Sephora to see when it would be released, and as luck would have it, they actually had the product in the store during the night of the VIB Rouge event. I asked one of the staff if she could bring out the lipstick and polish for me to look at, and I was actually first to try them both! They both jumped into my bag.
So, here is Mrs. Mia Wallace, the nail polish, from Urban Decay. I just wish they had given different names to the polish, lipstick, and liner! Too confusing. I used two coats and a topcoat… and let me tell you, this polish is insanely gorgeous. It has this golden shimmer in the bottle which shines just right in the light as a subtle shimmer on your nails. To me, it’s such a classy and rich looking colour for fall. I’m tempted to buy a backup bottle. My only negative is that I’m not a huge fan of the brush. It’s quite thin and long compared to some other polish brushes, so it takes a little adjustment.
The box is labelled as the Pulp Fiction collection, and has a little bandaid on the back, just like Marsellus Wallace had on the back of his head. Inside, is the Ezekiel 25:17 passage he quotes in the movie. The bottle itself has a skull on the top of the lid, as usual for UD polish… but this time the top is a darker gunmetal grey to show the special edition. Enough talk! Let’s see the polish!
Well, I don’t know about you… but that’s one gorgeous looking polish to me! I’m so tempted to get a backup… Happy Thursday!
I’ve talked before about Enchanted Polish doing a year of monthly mystery polishes, but just in case you are living under an Enchanted rock, I’ll catch you up…. (wouldn’t an Enchanted rock be cool?). Ahem. Each month EP is creating a polish of the month. They are available by presale (yay!) but they are mysteries… meaning, you won’t know the colour, finish, etc. of the polish until it shows up at your house, or you see spoilers online! So far, she’s been bunching them together a few months at a time, which is really nice for saving on shipping for us outside of the States.
I opted to only get July 2014, as it’s my birthday month. The other colours ended up being gorgeous, but I just didn’t want to risk it on something I might not love. It’s a tough call.
July turned out to be a beautiful nearly cherry red holo with a touch of blue shimmer. I used 2 coats and topcoat, but I found the formula a little bit thick for my liking.
You can see the blue shimmer here a bit… unfortunately, it’s really tough to see it on the nail.
Did you get any of the monthlies this time around? Which ones?
Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians! I know the nail world is beginning to fill up with American-flag inspired manis, (which I love seeing!), but I had to rep for all us Canadians… since there are 10 times fewer of us, Canadian flag manis just don’t pop up as much.
I kept it fun and easy for myself this year. Cat from Eat. Sleep. Polish. was super smart and released little maple leaf vinyls to make it 10 billion* times easier to make cute manis. I grabbed those, OPI’s Big Apple Red, Eat. Sleep. Polish.’s Elvis is My Homeboy and Sephora by OPI’s The Golden Age.
*estimated number. Results may vary.
I used two coats of each Big Apple Red and Elvis, and one coat of the Golden Age to accent. The vinyls are super easy to use and I arranged them on my nail in a pattern using tweezers. I finished it all off with a coat of quick dry topcoat. All 3 polishes applied easily and look gorgeous.
What are you wearing for Canada Day? Or Independence Day for that matter. Leave a link below and I’ll check out your designs! Enjoy your holiday, ladies!
